Barbara Jean Holt, who we all knew and loved as “Patsy” - to some she was “Momma Patsy” - was born on April 22, 1940, in Birmingham Alabama to Emma & Willie Holt who preceded her in death. She was the second child born to their union. Patsy came to Chicago in 1949 as a kid and stayed her entire life.
Patsy graduated from McKinley High School in the Chicago Public School System and Patsy worked at Jaidinger Manufacturing Company Inc. for 25 years before she retired. Patsy was known for her classy style and her Sunday dinners. Her family would always know that there was a Sunday meal ready if you wanted to eat, her beans were most famous. Patsy looked at herself as the “Black Marilyn Monroe.”
After she retired, she spent most days watching westerns and sitting in the window in her 5th floor apartment. If anything went down on Western Ave by the Saints or Rockwell gardens, she seen it. But she would still get dressed every day with a full face of make-up just in case she had to leave the house.
Patsy departed this world on January 18, 2024, at 5:52 a.m. Patsy has gone home to join: Her two children, Gloria Jean and Ronald; and five siblings, Voncile, Shirley, Willie, John and Jeffery. She leaves to cherish her memories and to carry on her legacy: Three children, Oliver, Debra (Dervel) and Reginald (Sandra); one sister, Costella Jolly; one brother, Melvin Holt; a very special granddaughter, “Barbara Ann”; twelve grandkids; and a host of great grandchildren, family, and
friends.
