Bernard C. Shields was the third child born on November 9, 1958 to McKinley and Juanita Shields in Chicago, Illinois.
Bernard accepted Christ at an early age at New Morning Star Baptist Church and was a member of Ebenezer Lutheran Church in Chicago, Illinois. On May 13, 1989, Bernard was united in Holy Matrimony to Valerie Barnes and to this union six children were born.
Bernard went to Henson Grammar School from kindergarten to sixth grade and Spry Middle School, where he graduated from. He went on to Harrison High School, graduating in 1976. He then went to College where he showed an interest in Pharmacy. But then he had the opportunity to take the fire department exam, where he became a fireman and an engine driver, retiring after thirty five years.
Bernard was born into eternity on April 17, 2024 to be joined with his mother, who preceded him in death.
Bernard leaves to cherish his memories: his wife, Valerie Shields, two sons: Bernard Jr. and Bradley, both of Chicago, Illinois; five daughters, Tenesha (Ronald), LaToya, Katina (Carl), Kierra and Nakiesha, all of Chicago, Illinois; nine grandchildren; his father, McKinley Shields; one brother, McKinley L Shields; four sisters, Beverly Shields- Ellis, Pamela Shields, Paula Shields and Deborah Shields, all of Chicago; three aunts, Sallie Cross of Chicago, Nancy Keglar of Memphis, Tenn., and Velma Cox of Arizona; and a host of family and friends.
