Brenda Hyles

November 3, 1958 — October 7, 2024

Brenda G. Hyles was a free spirit who danced to the beat of her own drum! Brenda was highly intelligent, very accomplished and she earned her MBA (Master of Business Administration) successfully. She worked in her field of business until she retired.

Brenda loved God, her family, watching sports with her brothers, and she loved cooking. Everytime she dined out with her family, she ordered a smorgasbord because she loved to eat! Brenda loved bowling! She was so good at it that she bowled in several bowling leagues.

Brenda had such a great sense of humor. She joked a lot, her beautiful smile lit up every room and her laughter was infectious. Brenda loved old school music and she loved to dance. Her favorite artist of all time was the incredible Smokie Robinson. We all thought she loved Smokie because of his sultry style of music, but we later discovered that she had the biggest crush on him because she thought he was so fine!

Brenda genuinely loved this gift called life. She also loved watching old shows like “I Love Lucy”, “Gilligan’s Island”, “I Dream of Jeannie”, “The Golden Girls” and even “Sanford and Son”. MeTV was her go-to station. Brenda was such a beautiful woman, both inside and out. She was just a beautiful soul filled with so much generosity and she enjoyed sacrificing her gifts, talents and treasures for the greater good. Brenda was so wise and discerning, she always knew “the good ground to sow in.”

Brenda patiently and lovingly became an amazing caretaker for both of her parents and for so many family members as well. She always checked on us all to make sure that we were okay and if we weren’t, she would do her best to make it all better. Thank you, Brenda for exuding such a powerful example of sacrifice, selflessness, strength, resilience, compassion, kindness, generosity and unconditional love! Thank you for the foundational teachings of what true love looks like. Thank you for showing us all that love is a verb, an action word, that it’s not just said, but shown. Thank you for making us all better and this world a much better place, just because you were here. We all hold some very precious memories in our hearts because of all the good times we had on Polk Street. So many unforgettable moments, so much love was shared on Polk Street. Your presence we’ll miss, your memory we’ll treasure, loving you always, forgetting you never.

Both grandparents, Will C. Lewis and Annie Maude Lewis; both parents, Moses Hyles Sr. and Ninner D. Hyles; and five siblings, Shirley J. Williams, Oscar Lewis, Milton Hyles, Moses Hyles Jr. and Willie Hyles all preceded her in death.

Brenda leaves behind: One sister, Gloria D. Hayes; two aunts, Pernella Pugh and Alice Hayes; and a host of other relatives and friends. A very special thank you to someone who also took very good care of Brenda and that’s Marlean Thomas.
