Samuel Marshall, Sr. was born on December 28, 1938 to the marital union of Benjamin Marshall and Carrie Daggett.
Samuel was born in Thomson, Georgia. He attended the public school system, graduating from grade school and going on to graduate from R.L. Norris High School.
Samuel was a builder, a master of his trade. He did it all, whether it was carpentry, painting, brick laying or decorating. Samuel did it well. He was truly a person of service, making him-self available to those in need. He was also a true gardener. Samuel loved his garden!
On December 28, 1959, Samuel married his high school sweetheart, Mattie Binns. To this union six children were born; two of them preceded him in death, Keith Sr. and Kirby.
Samuel became acquainted with Jehovah Witnesses. He accepted a free bible course with one of them. He therein learned God’s original purpose for mankind and the earth. He loved the bible teachings, always referring to God’s Kingdom as the only hope and solution for solving all of our problems.
Samuel dedicated his life to Jehovah and symbolized it by water baptism on July 25, 1969. Thereafter, he served the congregation in any way he could. He became an elder in September 1973 and served as one for many years, helping to build and repair many kingdom halls. He truly loved helping his brothers and sisters, spiritually and materially, if needed. No longer serving as an elder in recent years, Samuel continued to assist in any way he could.
Sadly, Samuel fell asleep in death on Sunday, November 10, 2024 at 12 pm at McNeal Hospital in Berwyn, Illinois. Samuel’s parents, Benjamin and Carrie Marshall preceded him in death, along with; four brothers, Willie, Benjamin Jr., Elliott and Moses; and two sisters, Annie Griffin and Mamie.
He leaves to cherish his memory: Mattie, his loving wife of sixty-four years, ten months and thirteen days; four children, Kenneth Marshall (Barbara), Cheryl Martin, Samuel Marshall, Jr.(Kelly) and Deborah Marshall; ten grandchildren, Tijuana, Keith Jr., Adonis, Shananika, Alexandra, Candice, Kevin, Alyssa, Kirby and Samuel III. Samuel also leaves to cherish his memory: two siblings, Dorothy Palmer of Matteson, IL and Elaine Moss (Bobby) of Thomson, GA; twenty-five great-grandchildren; one daughter-in-law, Theretha Marshall; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other extended family and friends.
Time would not allow naming all those who feel as if they have lost a father, or a brother at the death of our dear Samuel Marshall, Sr.
