Curtis Danzy Jr. was born in Chicago, Illinois on December 4, 1946 to the union of Curtis Danzy Sr. and Rhoda Mae Rivers, who preceded him in death.
He attended Oliver S. Westcott Vocational High School. In 1965, he served in the United States Navy. After an honorable discharge, he worked with his father at General Motors, then pursued his college education. He attended Kennedy King College and received a Diploma in the Arts. Curtis received his Bachelor of Science in Physical Education and Master of Science from the University of Illinois. He then obtained a Master of Education at the National College of Education.
Curtis was a hard worker in everything he pursued. He loved working with his students and making a difference. He worked as a special education teacher and physical therapist for over 8 years at Spalding High School and held the position of Head Coach of the Boys Basketball Team for 12 years at Juarez High School. He was also a dedicated Police Officer in the city of Chicago for 20 years.
While working at Spalding High School, he met his wife Readia Pope. They spent many years traveling and enjoying their time between Chicago, Illinois and Palm Coast, Florida.
Curtis had many passions. He enjoyed the theater, traveling internationally, boating, horseback riding, camping, playing chess, and cooking.
Curtis departed his life on December 20, 2024 in his home. Preceding him in death were his siblings: Johnny Rivers, Evelyn Rivers, Sheila Rivers, Angela Rivers.
Curtis leaves to cherish his memories: His wife, Readia; and three sisters, Thermetris Danzy Winfield of Munster, IN, Jean Jones of Lansing, IL and Beverly Alexander of Chicago, IL. He is also survived by a host of nieces, nephews, and many relatives and friends.
