Evelyn Dockery was born on January 7, 1928 to Lurn and Myra Miller in Lake Cormorant, Mississippi. Both parents preceded her in death.
To her children, family and friends, she was lovingly known as Lean. She received that name as a child because she was so little and had no fat on her.
She married John Dockery and that marriage lasted for 57 years. To that marriage she brought three children, Betty, Leirey and Gloria. In time they grew to become a loving family, united by love and respect.
John, Betty and Leirey all preceded her in death. Evelyn made a promise to Jehovah to do his will. She symbolized that promise by means of water baptism on January 6, 1975. She viewed it as a great pleasure to be one of his servants, and never regretted her choice to serve him. She faithfully served Jehovah for 49 years.
Lean lived a long life. She was blessed to see and know four generations of her offspring, spanning from 77 years of age down to 15 years of age.
At the end of her life, Lean was blessed by Jehovah. Two things she hoped for was to pass away peacefully in her sleep, and to not out live all of her children. She received what she hoped for.
Left in sorrow of her passing is: Her daughter, Gloria Johnson of Chicago; her two sisters, Ernestine and Samella Reese of Chicago, IL; eight grandchildren, twenty-four great-grandchildren, and a host of great-great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and friends. Also in sorrow of her passing is the spiritual family she acquired over many years as one of Jehovah’s servants.
