Herbert was born on May 15, 1933, in Greenville, Mississippi, to the late Oscar and Mary Harris. He was one of five children, joining his siblings in a family that would go on to shape his deep sense of loyalty and love.
Herbert was a man who valued hard work, integrity, and kindness. Through-out his life, he worked in numerous jobs, building a reputation as a dependable and dedicated employee. His work ethic and commitment to those around him earned him not only the respect of his colleagues, but also a wealth of dear friends who remember him for his unwavering loyalty and good nature. He took pride in everything he did, always giving his best to whatever task was at hand.
Herbert’s family was his heart, and his love for them was unconditional. He leaves behind his beloved wife, Jeanette Harris, with whom he shared many years of companionship and love. He also leaves; His son, Herbert Harris Jr.; his stepdaughter, Neidra Brown (Michael Brown, Sr.); and his brother, Jesse Harris. He is preceded in death by: His stepson, Willie Massie; brothers, Willie J. Davis, Frank Davis, Ernest Harris; and his sister, Edna Ellis. Herbert’s legacy continues through his cherished grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and a host of other relatives and friends who will forever hold him in their hearts.
Herbert’s memory will be a source of comfort and strength to all who knew him. He was a man of few words, but his actions spoke volumes. His gentle spirit, strong character, and the love he shared with those around him will never be forgotten.
He will be missed, but never forgotten. May his soul rest in peace.
