James A. Matthews was the oldest son of nine children. He was born April 10, 1948 in Yazoo City, MS to Charlie B. Matthews and Carrie Matthews.
James confessed Christ at an early age in Yazoo City, MS. James attended Yazoo City High School. James had a passion for cooking which led him to work at Chicago Orthopedic Hospital as a Chef. He moved on to work at Bethany Hospital also as the head Chef where he retired in 2010.
James is preceded in death by: His parents, C.B. Matthews and Carrie Matthews; his siblings, Nettie Taylor, Charlean M. Durham, Patricia Cook, Charlie B. Matthews, Debra A. Tate and Stella Matthews; and his son, James Matthews Jr.
He leaves to cherish: Ester, a long time love; children, Katrina Matthews, Shawn (Jaz’mere) Matthews, Simone (Corey) Johnson, Edward Matthews and Johnathan (Jasmine) Matthews; siblings, Paulean Matthews, Dorothy (Theodore) Ross, Helen Matthews and Calvin Matthews; extended siblings, Rogers Murphy, William Galloway, Charles Galloway and Serena Shelby; two grand
