Jerry Dodd

Jerry Dodd was born into life on April 14, 1941 to the parents of David Dodd and Leona Dodd (Hollins) in Chicago, IL.

A man of faith, Jerry was a longtime member of New Evangelical Bible Church under the leadership of Pastor Willie J. Sams. He embraced his spirituality throughout his life, attending various churches and finding solace in his devotion.

Jerry attended Dunbar High School and shortly after high school he was drafted into the United States Army. He served his country with honor during the Vietnam War while assigned to a Field Artillery unit.

Jerry also was employed at the renowned Brachs candy company for over a decade. Upon their closing he ultimately retired from Union Pacific Railroad company in 2007.

Outside of work, Jerry loved riding his Harley Davidson motorcycle and became a member of the Raiders Chicago motorcycle club in 1986 which is where he got his nickname Slide. He was also the club’s business manager. Jerry was also a member the Ancient Free and Accepted Masons Elect Lodge #10 under the Right Most Worshipful St. John’s Grand Lodge in Chicago, IL.

Jerry was born into eternity peacefully in his sleep on January 2, 2025. He is preceded in death by: His father, David; mother, Leona; older sister, Viola Jean; younger brother, Richard; and son, Jerry Jr.

Jerry leaves to cherish: His sons, Eric, Stephen, Julian, Brian, Vernon, and daughter, Cindy; his brothers, Arthur and Frank Jr.; his grandchildren, Alethea, Erricah, Sarah, Eboni, Brianna, Briana, Messiah, Jayden, Crystal Victoria; great-grandchildren, Damien, Atlas, Lala, Jayden, Semajay, Anyah, Amarii and Caiden along with extended family, friends and loved ones.
