Joseph Lee Taylor Sr. (Joe) was born in Belzoni, Mississippi on March 20, 1932 to Walter and Lillie
Taylor. Joseph was the only child born to this union. His parents preceded him in death.
Friends & Family affectionately called him “Dee Baby.” Joe was committed to the Lord from his early
years. He was a member of New Mt Moriah MB Church where he served and was faithful to the
Usher board for over 30 years under the leadership of the late Pastor Marvell Williams and served
under the leadership of Pastor Robert Williams until his health failed.
Joseph had to quit school in the second grade to work the cotton fields. He moved to Chicago at 21
years old in 1953. He worked and retired from Gerlins (glue) Company. Joe loved Cadillac cars and
detailed them better than any car wash. He stayed busy working odd jobs within the neighborhood.
He loved a good laugh, traveling, and spending time with his children and family. Joe loved listening
to his blues, and quartet music. On any great sunny day you can catch Joe seated in his favorite
chair on his porch. His smile could fill a room and his heart was as big as the sun. He was a tough
piece of leather, well put together.
Later in life, Joe met the Love of his Life Ruby. The two were joined in Holy Matrimony on June 12,
1993. Together they joined their families and created life lasting memories.
On Saturday April 27, 2024, Joseph was called from his Earthly tent to his heavenly home. With the
fullness of joy, he embraced a place prepared for him where he currently rejoices in the presence of
God.
