Larry was born on July 25, 1950 to Harvey Sr. and Lucy Neuman in Chicago, Illinois. His parents preceded him in death as well as his sister DeBora.
After graduating Austin High School he joined the U.S. Marine Corps and served in Vietnam.Upon completion of his service to our country, Larry returned home to further his education.
Larry attended Malcolm X College and later Illinois State University where he met and latermarried the love of his life Venetia.
Having a desire to serve his community, Larry joined the Chicago Police Dept in early 1982.Although he worked in other units with the Chicago Department, one of his greatest accomplishments was becoming one of the first African American Bomb Technicians in the Chicago Departments. He also had the privilege of becoming a member of the CPD Bagpipe Band.
After retiring from many years of service with the Chicago Police Department, Larry still had a desire to serve and protect our country. Because of that desire he applied and was afforded the opportunity to become a member of the U.S. Dept. of Homeland Security as a Transportation Security Agent (TSA)-Explosive Technician until his Sunset here on earth. Larry accepted Christ at an early age under the leadership of Pastor John Burbridge of Greater Peters Rock MB Church. He later joined St. Michael MB Church under the leadership of Rev. G.W. Conner. During his time as St. Michael Larry served in several capacities: A servant of God, a Deacon and he answered the call to be an ordained minister.
He was a pillar of his community who was well respected by many. His mission was to mentor young adults which led him to be considered a “neighborhood dad, uncle, granddad, hero”. (I am my brother’s keeper). Larry had a sense of community. His desire to see the community succeed should not be forgotten. We can honor him by doing our part to improve the living conditions in our area.
Larry leaves to cherish his memories: His wife, Venetia; children, Arthur, Taishi (Fred), Sam, Ashunda, Carolyn, Robert, Larry; 27 grandchildren; 40 great-grandchildren; 2 brothers, Robert(Lula) and Harvey (Rhonda); Goddaughter Denise; Godson “My-son”; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
