Lucy Mae Williams was born to William and Annie Bracy, both of whom preceded her
in death. She was born on October 10, 1946 in Chicago, Illinois. She was the eldest
of six children; two brothers, William and Robert and three sisters, Vertie, Rachael
and Annette Bracy.
Lucy received her formal education in the Chicago Public School System, graduating
from Lucy Flower Technical High School.
Lucy worked in the healthcare profession at Rush Hospital. She also worked for a
group of private physicians staffed at Northwestern Memorial Hospital for a great
number of years.
Lucy was the matriarch of the family. She valued and loved her family. She enjoyed
hosting and preparing Sunday dinners, which always included her signature greens.
She was a fashionista, exuding class and elegance.
Lucy Mae Williams departed this life on Monday, April 8, 2024. Her husband of 52
years, El Hajji Shabazz, preceded her in death.
She leaves to cherish her memory: Her son, Damon; daughter, Annieka; grandson,
Damon Jr; five sisters, Vertie, Rachael, Annette, Tracey and Yolanda; two brothers,
William and Robert; two sisters-in-law, Sheena and Carol Bracy; a host of nieces,
nephews and cousins; adopted sons, Big Dre and Lil Dre; lifelong friends and special
friends, Maxine Barnes and Kathy Myles.
