Margaret Smith

Margaret Smith was born on September 16, 1924 in Chicago, IL to her parents, William and Lillan Carruthers. Margaret later married John Harley and they proudly raised and nurtured two children. 

Margaret’s hobbies were crocheting for her loved ones and working in her vegetable garden. She loved to cook. 

Margaret accepted Christ at an early age and joined the Arnewt Chapel A.M.E. Church. She completed her education at Morgan Park High School in Chicago, IL. Margaret worked at Little Company of Mary Hospital until her retirement. 

Margaret departed from time into eternity on Saturday, June 15, 2024 at 7:11 a.m., while living at Victory Assistant Living Center in Melrose Park, IL.

She is preceded in death by: Her parents, William and Lillan Carruthers; her husband, John Harley; her sons, Wayne and Bruce Sr.; and her late husband, Mack Smith. 

She leaves to cherish: one sister, Shirley Woods; a loving, caring and devoted granddaughter, Millie Harley (Bruce); four grandchildren; and a host of great-grandchildren, loving nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
