Martha Hosch-Davis

May 20, 1941 — January 1, 2025

Chapter 1 – The Beginning

The date was Tuesday, May 20, 1941, springtime in Sledge, Mississippi. This wasn’t any ordinary day, Mary and Lewis Morgan welcomed their second baby girl whom they named Martha Morgan.

Chapter 2 – School Days

Martha received her early education from the Mississippi State School system, where she played forward for Sledge high school. However, her family would eventually relocate to the city of Chicago, Illinois, where she would be enrolled and graduate from Harrison High School.

Chapter 3 – Love

Every good story has a love component. Martha’s story was no different. In her early 20’s she met a little blue eyed fellow by the name of Clarence Hosch. In 1964, Martha said yes to Mr. Blue Eyes and became his wife. They would share four beautiful children together. Kent, their only daughter Tynell, Clarence Jr. and Steven. Clarence and Martha spent many years together but eventually went their separate ways. But who says you only get one chance at love? Martha was fortunate enough to experience love again later in life with Leon Davis. At the age of 72, on February 14, 2014, Martha would say I do again and become Mrs. Martha Davis. What started out as a great friendship, turned into a love that lasted over a decade. They shared a bond that felt like a lifetime of moments and memories. Leon took his vows of sickness and health seriously and remained a loving husband to Martha until the very end of her days.

Chapter 4 – Spiritual Life

Martha loved the Lord and served under various ministries. She joined Pleasant Valley under the leadership of Walter Robinson, and remained a faithful member. She enjoyed her years there until the church relocated. Martha’s spiritual journey would next be with Leap of Faith Ministries, under the leadership of (her church godson) Pastor John White whom she cared for deeply. She was a devoted member until  Pastor White relocated out of town. Martha found her final earthly church home in Greater St. John Bible Church under the leadership of Pastor Ira J. Acree, where she was yet again a loyal and spiritually invested member, until she was called to be with the Father.

Chapter 5 – Work

Martha worked at various companies during her lifetime. She started off at Bankers Life Insurance. She would later work at Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children’s Hospital. She worked in the Central Supply Department diligently for 17 years until she retired herself. A girl’s gotta move on…

Chapter 6 – This is Martha

Sassy, giving and loving are just a few of the words that could be used to describe Martha. Martha genuinely loved people and most definitely her family. But, being a boy mom of three she was always was partial to the young men in her life. Martha’s culinary skills were top tier! Her cabbage, mac and cheese, sweet potatoes and chicken were always a big hit! You didn’t leave her home hungry! Martha created a safe space, had a nurturing spirit and a generous heart. She also believed in taking care ofher financial affairs!

Epilogue

All great stories come to an end. Some characters in our life seem to leave way too soon. These special people departed prior to Martha. Her sons Kent and Clarence Jr.; her parents Mary and Lewis Morgan; Grandmother Martha; her siblings Evie, Rueben, and Earl; as well as her chosen sons, Dewayne Cox and Carl Dean.

On Wednesday, January 1, 2025, just an hour into the new year, an angel of God came and whispered in Martha’s ear that it was time to depart from this earthly world. She had journeyed through this life just over 83 years leaving an indelible impact and the time had come to close out her final chapter. Martha’s memories will be forever cherished by: Her husband, Leon Davis; her daughter, Tynell; her son, Steven (Kathy); her nine grandchildren, Joaquina, Crystal, Joshua, Jordan, Jessica (Edward), Stephanie, Savion, Kedra, and Kaitlyn; six great grandchildren, Kearia, Kaylee, Madison, Eithan, Elias, and Prince; three sisters, Helen, Vanessa and Winifred; chosen sons, Durwon Street and Russell Allen; her chosen daughters, Charlotte Ellison and Marnie Wilson; her church family, Greater St. John Bible Church; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
