Mattie McGhee

April 10, 1940 — November 17, 2024

Mattie McGhee was born on April 10, 1940 to Jessie Mae Stewart and Freddie Stewart in Como, Mississippi. Both parents preceded her in death.

Mattie accepted Christ at an early age and she joined Stone Temple MB Church in the early 1970s.

Mattie attended Maising Star Elementary School in Como, MS. She then went on to Carter’s Middle School. After that, she met Henry McGhee in 1955 and they were married in 1956. They then moved to Chicago, IL, where she worked at

Magnet Craft for twenty-three years, until she retired.

Mattie loved her family. She was a mother to her nieces and nephews. She loved to cook and feed many. She also loved sewing and making beautiful pieces. Mattie loved working in her yard, planting beautiful flowers. She also loved shopping and when family came in from out of town.

Mattie is preceded in death by: Her mother; her father; and her husband, Henry McGhee.

She leaves to cherish: Her brothers, William Stewart Sr., Fred and Bobby Burton; nieces, Tency, Kendra and Wanda; nephews, William Stewart Jr. (Julia Johnson); and a host of great nieces, great-great nieces, and great-great nephews.
