Mother Nancy Mae Charles’ Time
As we reflect on the journey of Mother Charles, we find solace in the timeless words of Ecclesiastics 3:1, “To everything there is a season a time for every purpose under the heaven.” Let's reflect on the seasons of life for Mother Charles.
A time to be Born
Mother Charles entered this life on September 25th, 1933, to Jimmie Lee Johnson Sr. and Nancy Mae Johnson. She was the eighth of ten children. Anna Lee, Jimmie Jr, Shelvy, Elzora, Willie, Amos, Cornelius, Alpus, all preceded her in death. Mother Charles had a spirit that would touch countless lives.
A time to Love.
On November 16th1960, Mother Charles married James C. Charles Sr. Their love story was of devotion and companionship.
A time to Nurture.
As a parent, Mother Charles poured her heart into raising her two daughters and two sons. Her love knew no bounds.
A time to Serve.
Mother Nancy Mae Charles was an active member of the Mother Board at Corinthian Temple COGIC in Chicago IL. She selflessly served in this role. Her kindness and compassion touched everyone she encountered.
A time to Rejoice.
Her faith was unshakable. Mother Charles found joy in praise, worship, prayer, and fellowship. She was known to pat her hands and tap her feet to the beats of up-tempo gospel songs: I Can Go To The Rock, When We All Get To Heaven, and Hold To God’s
Unchanging were among her favorites.
Psalm 100.2 reminds us: “Serve the Lord with gladness; come before his presence with singing praise was always in order for Mother Charles.
A time to Rest.
On Wednesday January 8th, 2025, Mother Nancy Mae Charles entered eternal rest. 2nd Corinthians 5:1, “For we know that if our earthly house of this tabernacle were dissolved, we have a building of God, a house not made with hands eternal in the heavens. Mother Nancy Charles leaves to cherish her precious memory her children, Vanessa McCullor (Nathaniel), James Charles Jr., Theresa Rodgers, and Stanley Charles (Cynthia). Her memory will always live in the hearts of her grandchildren, Talisha Rodgers- Watson (Dorian), Tyra Rodgers (Tameika), and Breanna Charles. Tywaun Rodgers "Prince" preceded her in death. Her memory will also be cherished by her “grandchildren of the heart”, Albert, Jamal, and David.
Mother Charles’ legacy will live on in the hearts of her great-grandchildren, Christopher, Casmiere, Cherish, Tayvon, Taliyah, Bre’Aysia and Bre’yon. She will be deeply missed by her sister, Truly White, and countless nieces, nephews and friends.
We celebrate the life of Mother Nancy Mae Charles knowing that she now rests in the arms of her Heavenly Father. May her legacy of love, faith, and kindness continue to inspire us all
