Otis Scarver was the sixth of ten children born to the late Essie Mae and Grace Scarborough on August 23, 1940.
He accepted Christ as his personal savior at an early age and joined Marianna AME Church in Clayton, Alabama. Otis received his early education in Alabama at Marianna Elementary School and Barbour County Training School. After graduating from High School Otis relocated to Chicago, II for a better life.
Soon after moving to Chicago he met and married Emma L Owens and to this union 7 children were born.
Otis worked at Horween Leather Company for over 40 years, working his way up to Supervisor of the Shipping Department. He was well liked and respected by his co-workers and bosses. He retired from his position in 2009.
Otis was a member of Original Providence Baptist Church and was active on the Adult Usher Board and sang in the Men's Choir until his health failed.
Otis loved to fish, garden, listen to the Blues and Old Spiritual music. But there is nothing he loved more than to simply spend time with his family.
Otis leaves a legacy of love. He will be remembered for his deep voice, always being supportive, encouraging, his advice and words of wisdom.
He departed this life peacefully in his home on Thursday April 25th.
He is preceded in death by: His daughter, Cheryl L. Creighton; son, Anthony Scarver; grandchildren, Allen Scarver, Jaleesa Hall, Jamal Hall and Airyanna Scarver; great grandson, Jayvion Keith; sister, Katie Newell; and brothers, Mae Scarver, William Scarver and Willie L Scarver.
Otis leaves to cherish his memories: His loving, devoted wife of 63 years, Emma; daughters, Brenda (Michael) of Kearney, Nebraska, Linda (Carl Sr), and Loretta(Kelly) of Chicago, Illinois; sons, Otis Jr and Randy of Chicago, Illinois; sixteen grandchildren, thirty-four great grandchildren; sisters, Jessie Henry, Emma Davis and Ruth Stevenson (Campbell) of Chicago, Illinois; brothers, Charles (Jean) of Midway, Alabama and Benjamin of St. Louis, Missouri; and a host of nieces, nephews,
