Mrs. Pearl Alexander was born Pearl Wells on November 23, 1953, in Hayti, Missouri, to the late
Sam and Climitee Wells. On January 8, 1977, she was United in Holy Matrimony to the late James
Alexander and out of that union Two children were born, Angela and James Alexander. She was
preceded in death by her late husband, James Alexander, Mother Climitee Wells, Father Sam Wells,
and brothers, Sammie Wells, Milton Wells and Joe Willie Wells.
Pearl relocated in the early 1970’s to Chicago Illinois, where she set out to start her new life and
Journey. She Met James Alexander and they created a loving family and home. While living in
Chicago she held many positions during her career, taking pride in cultivating life-long friendships
along the way. Pearl chopped and picked cotton in her early childhood years, she also worked for
Playskool from 1975-1985 in Chicago, Illinois, as Santa’s helper. She became family with her
Neighbors on Kedvale, where she lived for over 30 years, and built bonds and friendships that will
last a lifetime.
Pearl joined Rock of Ages Baptist Church in Chicago, under the leadership of Reverend AJ Moore in
1999. Where she faithfully served for 19 years. She had various hands in the church. She was on
the Usher Board, a Choir member, on the Pastor Anniversary committee, she took part in the church
fundraisers, she was the churches head cook and lead kitchen staffer. She was truly a Child of God.
Pearl was the matriarch of the Alexander Family, who enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and also loved cooking and having large gatherings. Everyone called her “Momma” and to
her Grandchildren, she was “Nana”. She embraces all who entered or came into her life. She was a
strong, beautiful, funny, sweet, peaceful soul, but also had a bold personality.
Pearl departed her earthly body on December 30, 2023, at 12:04 a.m. surrounded by family and
loved ones. She preceded in her death by her parents; Sam and Climitee Wells, and late husband,
James Alexander.
Pearl leaves to cherish her memories: Five siblings, Ora Hayes of Chicago, Illinois, Flora Thomas
of Hayti, Missouri, Bobbie Jones (Arthur) of Homeston, Missouri, Alvin Wells of Columbia Missouri
and Elic Wells (Verna Mae), of Hayti, Missouri; two children, Angela Alexander (Chris) of Chicago,
Illinois and James Alexander (ShaDawn) of Mansfield, Ohio; fourteen grandchildren and one great-granddaughter; a lifelong companion and special partner of over 20 years, Dwain Milan; and a host
of nieces, nephews, friends and extended families.
