Will D. Redmond, Sr., of Chicago, Illinois, passed away on Tuesday, January 16, 2024 at 80 years of age.
Will D. was born on February 24, 1943, in Lexington, Mississippi, to Sam and Irene Redmond. The family later moved to Tutwiler, Mississippi.
Will D., “Bones” as he was affectionately known to friends and family, headed to Chicago, in search of better opportunities. There, he met Jackie Thomas. They were wed December 12, 1964. This union produced three unique individuals: Dwilette, Rhonda and Will, Jr.
Will D. worked as a sheet metal fabricator at Reynolds Metals, in McCook, Illinois, for over 30 years, until he retired. He took great pride in his career and was well-known for dedication to his profession. His strong work ethic drew praise from his employer.
Will D. was a stylish man; he liked to look good. Sometimes, he was so sharp, it's amazing he didn't cut himself! He enjoyed traveling with his family, annual visits to the Wisconsin State Fair and the Auto Show and listening to R & B and down home Blues. Most of all, he loved to talk, to anyone, about anything. His unique way of delivering a story, could make you smile and often, burst into tears laughing.
Will D. will be remembered for his warm and welcoming nature. He never viewed anyone as a stranger and opened his home to everyone. He was an avid entertainer and loved hosting gatherings for family and friends. He was always willing to lend a helping hand to those in need. Most importantly, he saw to it that his family was well-cared for, in every way.
Will D. is preceded in death by: His father, Sam Redmond; his mother, Irene Redmond; and his siblings: Grace Kimbrough, Mary Dotson, Robert Lee Dotson, Catherene Robinson, Mamie Suggs, P.W. Redmond, Sam Redmond, and J.T. Redmond.
Will D.'s memory will be preserved by: His daughters, Darci Dwilette Redmond (Elliott) and Rhonda Redmond Watson (Azariah); his son, Will DeShonn Redmond, Jr.; their mother, Jackie Redmond; his grandchildren, Tierra, Triston, Chloe', Savanah and Willow; his great-grandchild, Tatum; his daughter, Ann Miller and his son, Will DeAndre Bryant (Keyana); his sisters, Lemmie Epps and Jesse Greenwood; and his brother, Willie Earl Redmond (Mary Catherine); and other family and friends.
