Willie J. Mc Murtrey Jr.

Willie McMurtrey Jr. (76) of Chicago, Illinois, passed away on February 2, 2024. Willie - fondly known by close family as 
“Dedown” - was born to Luretha and Willie McMurtrey Sr. in Camden, MS on March 3, 1947. He gave his life to Christ at an early age, attending Camden Church.

He attended school in Camden until relocating to Chicago. Here he met his longtime love Barbara Ann. They went on to make a life together and during this time he became an employee at O&G Spring Company (later known as Sterling Springs) for over 40 years until the day of his death.

Willie was a fun loving, hardworking, and well-known man to many who loved his good natured personality.

Willie enjoyed listening to blues and Jazz music, watching westerns, working and spending time with family and friends during his free time.

Willie is preceded in death by: His parents, Luretha and Willie McMurtrey Sr.; his long-time love, Barbara Ann; and three sisters, Maggie Wilder, Laurie Phillips and Mary Smith.

He is survived by: Sisters, Mae Reed, Odell White, Gloria Smith and Mary McMurtrey; brother, Johnnie Lee McMurtrey and Percy Catchine; daughters, Kisha, Regina and Khalilah; as well as a host of grandchildren, cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.
